Gwynne Nelson is an experienced innkeeper who is currently available for fulltime, part-time or inn sitting work.

With 23 years of experience as an Innkeeper/Manager in the Hospitality field, Gwynne has learned to handle every facet of this ever-changing industry. She has earned respect and recognition from her colleagues, vendors and guests for her knowledge, contribution and dedication to her work.

Gwynne is especially qualified as an inn sitter. For example, she took full responsiblity for the running of Applewood Inn & Restaurant when the owners traveled overseas on several occassions. In fact, she took on this responsiblity for each inn she has worked with - overseeing the day to day operations of small to large lodging properties while the owners were away.

About Gwynne Nelson

Gwynne became the Innkeeper at Applewood Inn & Restaurant in 1999. This job lasted over two owners until September 2010 when she concluded her task of helping the new owners of Applewood Inn get established in the innkeeping business.

During her years at Applewood, Gwynne increased revenues by 30%+, decreased staff turnover by more than 50% and has implemented a variety of revenue-generating programs to attract and retain retreat groups, reunions, board meetings, conferences, elopements and small weddings.

Leveraging her relationships with local vendors, Gwynne has created unique vacation packages with massages, facials, limo services and private wine tastings/tours. To simplify and assist training of office and innkeeping staff, created a reference manual of procedures to follow.

Before joining Applewood, Gwynne was the Innkeeper/Manager at Jenner Inn, an historic property on the Sonoma coastline. There, she ran the daily operations of a unique B&B with cottages spread throughout the town of Jenner. Matching the choices to individual needs became a welcome challenge for Gwynne.

While at Jenner Inn, Gwynne worked to increased revenues by more than 25% and created a daily breakfast buffet complete with her own baked goods. As Supervisor of Housekeeping/Maintenance, she was responsible for scheduling daily routines & ordering. Most importantly, she improved staff morale and turnover with cross training.

Gwynne started her career in the hospitality industry at St. Orres Hotel & Restaurant, on the Mendocino Coast, in 1982. She began as hostess and following several promotions, became the Head Innkeeper of this world-renowned Inn and Restaurant. Relishing the opportunity to learn the Industry, Gwynne covered all shifts and jobs - breakfast prep, baking, dining room service, hostess, bartender, office manager, concierge and supervisor: - she held down the fort. It was at St. Orres that Gwynne developed her expertise in Innkeeping, business management and her love of the industry.

Gwynne is a people person, relating and connecting in a confident manner to people of all backgrounds, lifestyles and ages. With an incredible gift of mentorship and staff development, she has helped dozens of people get their start in the hospitality industry. Gwynne’s 40+ years in Northern California has given her a wealth of knowledge and appreciation to share about this extraordinary area, from the historical sights of the Mendocino Coast to the vast regions of the Wine Country.

Gwynne lives in Forestville and is the mother of two adult children. She spends her free time gardening, hiking and exploring with her Basset Hound Leroy, caring for & grooming animals, and reading and maintaining her Forestville property.
